This GWO module provides the knowledge and skills of a Basic Rigger and/or Signal Person in General Industry and Construction. It assists employers in meeting OSHA’s qualification standard for Basic Rigger and Signal Person (BRSP) activities. Participants are educated on hazards, proper use, equipment, hardware limitations, basic rigging procedures and precautions, critical and non-critical lifts, responsibilities under crane safety, and signal types, systems, and operations. Complies with OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1400 Subpart CC, 29 CFR 1910.180, ANSI/ASME B30.5, B30.9, and B30.26. GWO certified through ENSA.

CONTENT:

  • Attach and detach loads to/from the crane lifting attachment
  • Initiate and direct safe movement of a crane (multiple signallers, blind lifts, unfamiliar situations)
  • Roles and responsibilities during the lift
  • Visual pre/post-inspection and handling of lifting accessories and load
  • Safe lift-off and lay-down of the load
  • Slinging various loads based on weight, center of gravity, shape/size, and when to seek guidance
  • Carry out generic routine lifts in accordance with lift plans
  • Employer instructions/procedures to manage lifts and when to seek guidance 
  • Equipment application, maintenance, and reporting defects
  • Demonstration of additional best practices as defined by North American Basic Rigging

LOCATION:

  • Groton Training Center, Groton, CT

DURATION:

  • Initial: Sixteen (16) Hours | 2 Days

AGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Participants must be a minimum of 18 years of age for full participation and certification. Participants under the age of 18 require parental consent.

PREREQUISITES:

  • Participants engage in rigorous activity and should be in a good state of health, physically capable of fully taking part in all course exercises with a fully clothed max body weight of 285lbs (129kg). This program includes climbing ship stairs, towers, and working at an elevated platform. Students need work boots and a photo ID. We provide all other equipment.

CERTIFICATION:

  • All participants who complete the full program in accordance with the learning and performance objectives receive a course completion certificate and GWO (WINDA) credit (24-mo expiry).

SCHEDULING:

  • Courses are scheduled on a rolling basis. Training calendar seats are booked on a first come, first serve basis.
